FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Zmation Announces Universal Automation PlatformOctober 31, 1995 -- Portland, OR, USA---Zmation, Inc. announced today the availability of a new Universal Automation Platform. This Platform is designed for either fully automatic (conveyorized) or semi-automated (operator loading) operation in a wide variety of automation applications. The Universal Automation Platform incorporates three or four closed loop servo drive axes with ball screw technology for high accuracy and repeatability. This platform can accommodate up to seven active (dispensing, soldering, P&P, etc.) heads as well as a camera for vision alignment (Cognex) and either a laser (Cyber Optics) or dynamic Touch Sensor for Z-axis height compensation. Zmations proprietary application software allows complete flexibility while providing operation by minimally trained operators. The Universal Automation Platform can accommodate work envelopes from 300mm x 300mm, (~12" x 12"), up to 1200mm X 1200mm (~48" X 48"). The Universal Automation Platform can be used for a wide variety of process and assembly operations on the same system. Some applications include: fluid dispensing (solder paste, underfill epoxy, adhesive, chip coating, silicones, etc.); soldering (hot gas, hot bar, laser or high intensity light, temperature controlled iron, etc.); odd component P&P; flip chip and die attach; conformal coating; inner layer trace cutting; depaneling; small parts assembly; machine vision inspection; etc. The cost of a fully integrated Universal Automation Platform is from $45-125,000 depending upon specific application requirements.
